It's new comic book day!
So like all lonely pricks on the internet I'm going to share my thoughts on some of the books I picked up!HAWKEYE #3
Well it's been described as Marvel's "indie" book, and that is definitely a good thing. I've been anxiously waiting for this and Venom, but let me tell you Hawkeye does not disappoint. The humor in this book is spot on, the the art matches it's style of storytelling giving Hawkeye a very "indie" feel. And as a amateur design student, the cover and layout of this book look awesome.VENOM #26
I gotta say Venom's crossover with the Scarlet Spider I expected to go a little different. So far our two spiders have been split up for an entire issue, which is really too bad because I was looking forward to the interaction between these Flash and Kaine. But it seems like there's still story left.On the positive side I like how this crossover uses The Microverse as it's setting. I can't remember the last time I saw The Microverse in Marvel, and the last page reveals that there might be another character resurrected from comic book limbo, but I won't spoil that.
Sword of Sorcery
Oh great another "GURL POWER" book what kind of crap is DC going to put into-
Oh... oh god...
Well I should say right now I haven't read SoS #0 yet, but I'm definitely going to now!
This book is pretty interesting, hopefully it will be as good as DC's other fantasy book Demon Knights (AKA "The best dungeons and dragons book that's not called dungeons and dragons"). I'm liking this cape fantasy mix, and I'm very excited to read more. The art is sort of just there, it doesn't really stand out like Hawkeye, but it doesn't look bad, at very worse just a little unfitting for this book.
Sword of Sorcery also comes with an interesting back up feature Beowulf, which I thought would be a straight adaptation but then:
But that's not a bad thing, in fact I might even like the backup more than the feature.
Also the last page reveals this artist's Grendel, which is pretty badass. Again, not going to show it for spoilers.
GODZILLA HALF-CENTURY WAR
would have been on this list, but I haven't gotten a copy of it yet...
That's it for now,
Till next time!
